Sulawesi orange rabbit snails

I keep quite interesting snails. People always ask me what is this and why they are so big. Yeah, they are big, majority of adult snails are 3″ in size and even a little bigger.

Also, these snails are very attractive, because they have bright orange bodies and black or dark chocolate shells.

These guys are from the different lakes from Sulawesi Island, Indonesia.

they live in high pH, GH and temperature in their places of origin. However, they are hardy as many other snails, and can live in ordinary tank with ph 7.6 and 20-28C temperature. Despite their enormous size, these snails are not eating or digging out plants plans, and just clear algae from tank sized, rocks and plants. They also are not digging into the gravel; they could be a disaster considering their size.

Tylomenia sp. “orange” snails are also called orange rabbit or elephant poso snails. You can understand why if you look at their nose :)

These snails breed very slowly and produce only one baby at a time. Babies are similar to parents, they just small.
